EOTC Recount Blog

Hi guys today in wananga we are writing a paragraph to retell what we did in our EOTC days. EOTC means Education Outside The Classroom.

Here is my paragraph's
Last week on Wednesday we went to Adrenaline Forest, I wasn't too keen on trying it though. I found climbing and doing all the activities really nerve racking, but kind of fun at the same time. My favourite part of going to Adrenaline Forest is going down the zip lines, I didn't really like doing the tightrope ones. Something that I saw was really big trees and some people on the level 6 which looked really hard and it was pretty high. Something we did was after we finished we went across the road to Spencer Park. I also learnt what Adrenaline Forest was.

After that on Thursday we went for a walk around the city. The places we went in the city were Margaret Mahy Playground, Tūranga Library, and Canterbury Museum. My favourite place we went to in city was Tūranga Library. At Margaret Mahy my friends and I went down by the lake and we saw some ducks and a big swan. In Tūranga Library Carla and I looked and these boxes were it had a lot of peoples last names and saw how many people had the same last name as others. Something I learnt was that I am in fact taller than a mummy.

Friday we went to Jellie Park which personally was my favourite day. What we did there we swam in the pools and went down the hydro slides. I didn't really learn anything at Jellie Park though.

Horror Story Writing - Week 9

Hi guys for a few weeks in reading me and Carla have been working on a horror story. Our story is about a town which is named Whitebridge and there is something going. We have 2 chapters and working on the 3rd one right now. We haven't thought of a name for our story but here is chapter 1 of our story and i hope you guys enjoy.

There is a little town in a forest named Whitebridge. It had a population of 100,000.

In the middle of the town there are small market places run by civilians who live there.

The town was very peaceful, one of the only towns who have never gone to war.

Whitebridge got its name because every few months beautiful white bearded irises grow around

the town. The president's name is Anton. The town was found because the president of Whitebridge

was trying to find a place to build a town so he was stumbling around and then found forest.

He decides to take a walk inside of the forest, he sees a place in the middle of the forest

where bearded irises were growing. He then thought that this was the perfect place to build a town.

That’s how Whitebridge was found. Anton decided to get his best friend Apollo to help him build

the town, of course this isn’t possible building a town with just two people so he got some people

he knew that lived in the old town. There is a signature building that took the longest to build.

That building  was a huge clock tower. The clock tower was built with dark brown bricks,

stained glass with a variety of colours, above the stained glass is the clock, the clock has black hands,

there are rails just on top of the clock that have the flag that represents Whitebridge.

The flag colours our black, white, and grey.

Book Review - Playing to Win

Hi guys today in reading since we have basically finished we are writing a book review. The book I read was called Playing to Win. Here is my Review on the book and I hope you guys enjoy.

The book I was reading was Playing To Win, the author of the story is Fleur Beale. I thought that the book was interesting because basically something new happened in all of the chapters even though they were short there was a lot of things going on. My favourite part in the book is when Alice, Clara, Zak, and Denny are at the beach walking around and they were talking about singing because Alice and Clara are in a band together, so then Zak starts to sing in a very out of tune voice. The characters that were in the book were Denny, Todd, Alice, Clara, Zak, Sally, Pete, Coach, Lucy, Rose, and the rugby boys. I would probably recommend this book to someone who was interested in reading a book about high school and looking for a book that was a bit short. I would probably rate the book 3/5, it wasn't bad but it wasn't that good.

EOTC - Extra for Experts

Hi guys today in wga we are working on our eotc task board. I finished the ones for the Adrenalin Forest, Going around the city, and also jellie park. Since iv e done all of those i'm doing extra for experts the one i chose was you had to look through some art on te Christchurch Art Gallery page and then write about what it makes you think of and how it makes you feel. Here is my work and I hope you guys enjoy.

When I look at the art work I think that i'm in a forest in the water chilling with some friends. The green leaves from the trees are falling to the ground while i'm floating on the water. The piece makes me feel calm.

When I look at this piece I think of the antarctic and a lot more penguins around but some photographers took a photo of the penguins in specific. The piece makes me feel happy because they look happy lol.

When I look at this photo I think of someone in a car looking at the bridge and the hills near it and be hide it. I feel calm looking at the photo because you can tell what it is.

EOTC Week - Margaret Mahy

Hi guys today in Wananga we did a task for EOTC week, EOTC week is when  you have some trips. You had to chose an activity and do it for one of the places you were going. The task i chose was to make a biography for Margaret Mahy. Here it is and I hope you guys enjoy.

Margaret Mahy

Childrens and Young Adult author

21 March 1936 - 23 July 2012
--------------------------------------------------------

Facts about Margaret Mahy

  • She wrote 100 picture books, 40 novels, and a collection of short books.

  • The park Magaret Mahy was named after her to honour her after she died.

  • Margaret Mahy’s first book was “A Lion in the Meadow”

Margarey Mahy was a New Zealand author who grew up in a town named Whakatane.

She wrote books for young adults and children. She went to Whakatane High School,

University of Canterbury, and The University of Auckland.

Margaret Mahy died in 2012 because of cancer at the age of 76.

She started writing at the age of 18. She then trained as a librarian and then worked at School Library

Service in Christchurch in 1967.  Later in 1980 she became a full time writer.

How she creates characters is that she thinks about things that she does all the time like driving,

Gardening, Shopping. Sometimes when she’s writing she used to think it became more interesting than

real life.

Playing To Win Fast Finisher.

Hi guys today we finished reading all of our chapters. Which means we only have to do fast finisher task. The fast finisher task I did was writing a letter to the author. Here is my letter and I hope you guys enjoy it.

Dear Fluer Beale,

I have a question for you. What inspired you to write Playing To Win? Did something like this happen to you in school? Or did you see something happen and it gave you an idea in your head. I enjoyed reading the story, it was kind of interesting because in nearly all of the chapters something new happened. I would think that Pete or Zak would be favourite characters because they are funny, like one part where they're at the beach and Zak was singing in a horrible out of tune way. There was something that you could’ve changed. Maybe next time you could make the chapters a bit longer because they were a little short. Our school and their school have some differences and things that are the same. That's all I have to say.

Sincerely from Alexia.

Playing To Win

Hi guys today in reading since we don't have our discussion questions and we didn't read anything there wasn't much to do. Since we didn't have much to do we moved onto fast finisher tasks. The fast finisher task that I am doing right now is getting some information on the author of our story. The author's name is Fleur Beale, she isn't just an author she is also a teacher. The school she used to teach at is Canterbury University. The school's she went to was Victoria University and Christchurch Teachers College. I don't think that this helped her a bit to write a novel but her family inspired her to keep on writing. Also did you know her mother was also a writer? Fleur Beale published playing to win in 1999. And it came out to New Zealand in 2006.

100 Word Challenge

Hi guys today in wananga we had to write a story about a live size bubble coming to take you to the country you want to go to the most. The country that I chose was japan. Here is my story and I hope you guys enjoy it.

I was walking around and then I saw a life size bubble floating towards me. I was obviously confused who wouldn’t

be if a random huge bubble was right in front of you without explanation.

I was tempted to put my hand in the bubble so I did… I regretted it. The bubble sucked my whole body into it.

I was confused and scared, why would I be sucked up into this huge bubble.

I was suddenly in japan. I could see beautiful cherry blossom trees.

There were people underneath me looking right up at me. I was still confused.

Shoe

Hi guys last week  in Wananga I created a shoe. I created a shoe because it was an activity to do because of the Fun Run that we are doing. For the shoe I put wavy rainbow lines. You couldn't create a shoe that was always created. Personally I wouldn't wear them anywhere.

Playing To Win - Week 6

Hi guys today in reading we didn't have to read anything, because its a catch up week. Since I have finished my tasks from last week so I'm doing fast finisher tasks for this week. The fast finisher task that I'm doing is making a new cover for the book that we a reading. The site I used to make this was canva. Here is the cover I made for the book hope you enjoy.

Playing To Win

Hi guys today in reading were doing a fast finisher task. The fast finisher task wasn't really one made by our teacher but we just made a fast finisher task because a few of us were finished. The task that we made was making a movie trailer, what we did was we deiced to do a scene with all of us. Ashton as Alice, Shanaya as Todd, Carla as Clara, and me as Denny. The scene that we did was where Alice was doing her performance. We deiced to make all of us do a introduction of the character we were. Here is the video and I hope you guys enjoy!

Playing To Win - Independent task

Hi guys today in reading I have finished reading chapter 8 - 9, for our task we have some questions that w need to answer. We had to do these questions because there is no school on Friday and that means we don't have our discussion group that we always do. Here is my answer to the questions and I hope you guys enjoy reading this.

1. Denny has lots of responsibility's in his life, he helps his mum with fiances, has a job, he takes care of his sisters and is part of a team. Do you think these are reasonable responsibilities for a sixteen year old? Why or why not? I think this is a bit too much for a sixteen year old to do. Denny having a job and looking after his sister could be a good responsibility for him but helping his mum with fiances and also being apart of a team could over work him, he could be doing too much things and that could affect the way that he acts and how much sleep he gets.

2.What responsibilities do you have in your life? How do you manage them and make sure you are completing everything you are trusted to do? Think about what you do at school and at home or in your spare time. Some responsibility that I have are just cleaning my room, doing the dishes, and sometimes helping my mother cook things. For school I don't have any responsibility just getting my work done at the right time.

3. Denny feels pressured to drink at the party, but he still says no. Why do you think the boys were pressuring him? Why do you think it is important to stand up for your beliefs? What values do you think he was showing by saying no to underage drinking? I think that the boys were pressuring him because they drink, if they didn't drink I don't think they would pressure him as much as they did. I think it is important to stand up to your beliefs because you shouldn't change what you believe in because someone else doesn't believe in it.  I think he is showing respect because he isn't drinking while he is currently underage.

Fast finisher task - Playing To Win

Hi guys today in reading I have finished my main task to do so right now I'm going to do a fast finisher task, the fast finisher task that I'm doing right now is that you chose a past discussion question and right a paragraph on what you think. The question that I'm choosing is "Why do you think Mrs.Winter wanted to thank Denny? How do you think he felt meeting her?"
I think that Mrs. Winter's wanted to meet Denny because Denny made him live for a longer amount of time, if Denny didn't do what he did then that means the guy that we saved would've been dead on the scene so I think that Mrs. Winters would've enjoyed seeing the person who gave her husband a few more minutes of his live.

100 word challege

Hi guys today in wananga we did another 100 word challenge. The picture was some footprints in snow ( I think?), So I deiced to do a Halloween themed story, here is my story and I hope you guys enjoy.

Today was the day. It was Halloween. My friends decided to throw a party at my house. Only my group of friends were invited though. I was dressed up as a witch this Halloween. I had everything planned out, Lollies, Drinks, and games. After a few minutes my friends arrived. It was Ben, Heather, Luke, and I. Heather was dressed as Heather Chandler from the Heather's, Ben was a werewolf, and Luke was a cat. We were all playing games then the lights went out. Heather then screamed, “What the HELL!”. We walked outside and saw footprints on the snow.

200 word challenge

Hi guys today in Wananga we did a 200 word challenge. The photo is a picture of a scuba diver and a whale shark. Here is my story and the picture I hope you guys enjoy.

I decided to go for a swim in the ocean because there was a rumor going around that there was a huge sea monster.

Currently right now i'm swimming in the water, today the water looks really nice it's like a lapis blue.

I was swimming around and I saw some fish, some with really exotic colours like Framboise, Oranges, Pinks, and

Yellows. Right now I really haven't seen anything but fish and rocks. I suddenly then heard a huge noise from behind

me. I turned around quickly and then I saw a huge whale shark. It opened its mouth and I started swimming as fast

as I could. I was panicking.. “What if I die here” “I'm going to die”. I decided there was no use in swimming so I just

stopped. The whale shark then opened its mouth and swallowed me. My eyes opened a bit and I realized I was in its

stomach. Its was a pinky purple colour looked around and saw a skeleton.I then realized i'm never gonna get out of

here without a sharp weapon to get me out. I sat down on the whales sharks insides. I deiced to accept my faith.

Drama

Hi guys last week in drama we have been doing different types of techniques. The techniques that we used is Levels, Spacial Relationships, Facial Expressions, and Gestures . What we did to practice theses techniques is that we did Freeze Frame. We did some random ones like someone went in first on said they were a random thing and then everyone else has to do the same thing but had to fit into the scene. The less random one is when we used the idea of the script that we read a few weeks back called bullies. I was in a group with Shanaya Carla and Casey, we deiced to do a scene where Shanaya was on top of me and I was on the group she was holding me by the collar ad then we pretending like she was going to punch me. The most interesting thing for me is that when we were doing the freeze frames I actually enjoyed it. My favourite thing was when Miss. Allen told us to do a freeze frame of the titanic. Now here's a photo of Shanaya punching me.

Prediction

Hi guys today in reading I have finished and now i'm going to be doing a prediction task. The prediction task is when you have to predict what is going to happen next. What do you think the consequence of Denny helping at the accident? Do you think that Todd and the others will change their attitude towards him?
My prediction is that they may treat i'm differently and be more kind, happy and sometimes people might give him free stuff because of it. Its because he basically saved a guys life because if he didn't put pressure on the person wound he would be dead.

Blackout Poem - Digital

Hi guys today in art we have been doing Blackout Poems again, but instead of using paper we did it on our chrome books. We used a site called 'Blackout Poetry Marker', it was pretty fun to use, there was three stories that you could choose from, Alice in Wonderland, Pride and Prejudice, and Heart of Darkness. I deiced just to use one story the story that I made my blackout poetry from was Alice in Wonderland. I selected a few words, the reason why I choose the words was because the kind of stood out when I skimmed across the work. Comparing digital and paper I say that I enjoyed doing both but I liked the digital one more. The only reason why is because it was more faster and I don't really need supplies to do the poems. Here are the pictures of my poems and i hope you enjoy them.

Language Week.

Hi guys today in wananga we have a new language week. The two languages/countries that we are learning about is Niuean + Tokelau, they are both pacific countries. The activity that I choose to do first was a writing task. Its when you listen to one of the songs that are linked and you have to write something about a image that you see while you listen to it. Here is the image that I saw but in a writing form I hope you enjoy!.

I see two people sitting on the sand on a beach looking at the waves that are coming towards them. The colour of the water looks like a pure cyan and it sparkles like a crystal when the sun is reflecting on it. The two people that are sitting on the beach is that there is one male and one female, the female has a flower crown across her head with beautiful reds and oranges. The male on the other hand has flowers in his hair. Their hair is flowing in the wind. There is also palms trees that are moving slowly around them. Even though they aren’t near them they can still hear the noises that its making.

100 Word Challenge

Hi guys today in wananga we are doing the 100 word challenge. What we are doing for the 100 word challenge is that there is a pug wrapped up in a blanket out in a forest somewhere. Now after we look at the photo we have to write something about the picture but it has to bee only 100 words. Here is my 100 word challenge I hope you enjoy

The pug wrapped the blanket around him. It felt nice and warm against his fur but it also felt itchy at the same time. The blanket was on the lighter side of the colours, a light peach, pale pink, and a pale blue. The dark green leaves slowly moved against the breeze. The dog sat up a bit to sniff the leaves. The leaves smelt like it would taste bitter if someone were to eat them. The dog decided to walk around with the blanket around him, the blanket was itchy but it will do. The dog then sat down.Writing Prompt: Affected Bodies, Trauma, and Non-Human Encounters by Janice Lee - Hugo House

Playing to Win - Fast Finishers

Hi guys today in reading we have been writing summaries about what happened in the chapters that we read. After you finished you move onto fast finisher tasks, the fast finisher task that I wanted to do was where you reread the first paragraph were he talks about sports, and then we have to write about what he means when he says "You can fight a whole war, forty minutes each way and come out the other end alive. More or less anyways" and also how he feels about playing sports.

What I think he means by that is that is that in one half you could come out non injured and at one half you could come out inured or its a win or not winning ratio. When he plays sports he probably feels more energetic, powerful, and he feels happy to play while playing sports.

Upstander Actions

Hi guys today in wananga we are doing some more task on Pink Shirt Day. The activity that we are doing is that we are getting an action and then we write a result to the action that you did to help that person. Here is the activity that I did I hope you enjoy.

Awhi/Support the person experiencing bullying
Result -  I think that the result would be that if you watch the person being bullied and after you could tell them that you saw what happened and you can encourage them to tell a teacher and also help them and support them through out the period of time that they have been being bullied.

Distract - Interrupting the bullying in some type of way
Call it! - If you feel safe you can tell the person who is bullying someone that it isn't right.Leave and Act - If you don't feel safe to step in while the bullying is happening you can move away from the situation and later on you can ask the person who was being bullying if the want help.
Get some other help - Get some other help is when you support or help the person who is being bullied by getting help by other people a trusted adult or a teacher.

Art - Blackout poetry

Hi guys today in art we did blackout poetry. Blackout poetry is when you have a book, news paper or something that has writing on it, you choose a page you then circle or outline the words that you want and then it can make a poem out of the words you circled or outlined. During the first session of doing this we started off with doing some normal ones without drawings, during this session we drew something that linked with our poem. My experience with writing these poem's is that I found it really fun and I also found it really fun to draw something underneath my poems. I was feeling really happy to do this activity because I found it as a way for people to get their creativity out. My favourite poem out of all of them is the bird one on the end. Here is a picture of the poems that I did.

Pink Shirt Day - Opinion

Hi guys today in wga we are doing some things about pink shirt day. one of the activites that you had a choice to do was a question and we had to follow the question with our opinion. The question was "Why do you think Pink Shirt Day has become a global movement". My opinion on this is that i think it became a global movement to spread awareness about bullying, and that people shouldn't be judge by wearing a certain type of colour or design. I think that the message was spread around the world because the bullying happens everywhere and also that it would've been spread throughout social media and people paid mor attention to it. It would've moved people who would have been bullied before and wanted to stick up for the kid even though it didn't happen in their country.

What is expected - PE

Today we have been told to write what is expected of us when we come to do PE.
You are expected to have PE gear, if not you will have a punishment, probably not playing the games or picking up rubbish. If PE shorts or top is being washed you can bring another pair of shorts of another t-shirt so you can still participate. When coming to the gym you line up in two lines outside the door. Once changed in PE gear you come and sit down were teacher says so. All gear is left untouched until the teacher says you are allowed to touch the gear that has been put out.

Pink Shirt Day - DLO

Hi guys today in Wananga we were working on a DLO about what Pink Shirt Day is.  Here is my DLO Pink Shirt Day I hope you enjoy.
