I really like the story Paper Boy that you wrote. I like how it describes a lot of things. I really like the way you write your dialogues its interesting and not like how others would write their dialogues. The story so far makes me want to read more of it, sadly I have to do some more activities before I find out what happens in chapter 18. I have two questions that I would like to ask you.

How do you remember all of these events that happened in your childhood?

What inspired you to write this novel about your childhood?

Final Blog for Art/Poetry Hurumanu!

Hello guys today I have finished all my art/poetry!. This blog is about what I did and why i'm sharing this work. I'm sharing this work because I have completely finished our Art Display.

The part of my art board that I am most proud of is the Tapa Cloth because I didn't think it would turn out good and I thought that I wouldn't like it,

Something that challenged me in this Hurumanu was writing the poems mainly because it was kind of hard to figure out a poem that could go with the story.

My favorites style of poetry to write was the Haiku poems. I liked to write the Haiku poems because it made it more challenging because of finding syllables and the right amount of words.

My final thoughts on this is that I really enjoyed doing this and making different types of art.

100 Word Story.

Hello guys today in class we did a 100 word story. We had a picture on the screen and we had to right an 100 word story out of it. I used word count to see how many words I had. Here is my story and the picture hope you enjoy.

In the evening the grizzly bear was feeling hot so he decided to go for a swim. There was a seagull that was standing in the water. The grizzly bear wanted to say hi to the seagull. The seagull didn't want to interact with the bear so he just walked away a bit. The bear didn't like that so the bear chased after the seagull and proceeded to bite right into the seagull’s right wing. There was some blood coming out of the wing. The seagull squeaked really loud. The seagull couldn't fly anymore. The seagull was useless and weak.

Wet Day DLO

Hi guys today we did a DLO on what we can do and what we expect people to do while we are inside when its wet. The reason why we did this is because we want people to do the right things while you are inside, we are also doing this to spread doing the right thing while we are inside.

Paperboy - 10 - 12 - Sumary

Hi guys today i finished reading chapter 10 to 12. Here's my summary hope you enjoy.

Little man goes to a game and he sees Ara T pushing his cart. Little man takes this as a chance to look for his knife. He goes to Ara T's shed and tries to find his knife, but on his way there he drops his paper bags. He walks into the shed and he finds the place find with junk and rubbish it was basically filled. But little man cant find his knife. He turns away and tries to leave but at that moment he hears Ara T's cart coming towards the shed. Little man hides be hide a tarp with a little shovel. Ara T comes in with his cart. Little man then hits Ara T with the shovel, Ara T falls over little man takes this and runs out. He runs all the way to his house. When Little Man came home he instantly took a bath because he felt so dirty.

On Sunday Little Man went to church choir with mam. He feels bad when he looks up to Mams beaten up face and feels bad because Mam always  has to look after him and the only time that she has a vacation she comes back beaten up. Little man and Mam goes to the zoo. They look at different types of animals. Mam cant go to the zoo by herself because of her skin colour (race). There was a lot of house takers at the zoo with their kids they look after. Little man wants to take a photo with mam at the zoo but because of her race and because she is a house taker she cant take a photo with him. Little man decides to use his stuttering trick to make the photo grapher feel bad because he has a stuttering problem. The trick works and Little man and mam take photo together. The photographer also lets them wear some costumes they have at the back. But at the zoo a kid called Mam the N-word.

Paperboy - Reading - 10 - 12

Hi guys today I finished chapter 10 - 12 on the book Paperboy. Vince Vawter writes his dialogue's in a different way then others would. (a dialogue is when a character is talking to another character.). Here is an example on how Vince Vawter writes his dialogue's.

The sun was bright it was shining right into my eyes actually it was a bit uncomfortable but that was fine.

Hey Helen?

Yeah what do you need?

(EXAMPLE OVER)

Usually peopled would put speech marks in front of the person talking but Vince Vawter does it that way, im not sure why Vince Vawter writes his dialogue's that way but I think it was to be unique and being different from the others. 

Diamante Poem

Hi guys for art/poetry hurumanu we did a Diamante Poem on a story that we got read to us. The story was about the Wind and the Taniwha. A Diamante Poem is a poem that has a few words on each line and it comes out in a shape of a diamond, you have to choose two topics. The things I choose were the Wind and Taniwha. Why we are learning this is to see all different types of poems.  Here is my poem.

Novel Study - Paper Boy Chapter 7 - 9

Hello today I finished reading the chapters 7-9. There is some questions that I will be answering so here they are.

The conflict between Ara T and Little Man is that Ara T wont give Little Mans' yellow handled knife back. Also he might have something to do with Mam.

I think Little Man likes Mr. Spiro because Mr Spiro doesn't talk to Little Man as a child, I also think he likes him is because he adds more words and more information when he could just answer in a simple sentence. 

A Speech Pathologist helps to prevent speaking problems like Stuttering. It isn't guaranteed that they will get rid of it but it can happen. They are required to study Anatomy and Physiology. They can also help people with lisp. 

 In Paper Boy's family there is a lady called Mam, Mam's role in the family is that she is a house keeper.

Water colour

Hi guys today in art hurumanu I did some watercolour. We focused it on mostly contrast and texture. We got to choose what colours we wanted. Me and Shanaya both choose Blue and Pink. The types of thing we painted is, Blend, Salt, Splat, and Drip. 

Blending is where you have your colours and blend them to make it have an ombre effect.

Salt is you have your watercolour down and you put salt on top of it and it will give it a texture.

Splat is where you have your colours on your brush and you start splatting it on the page.

Drip is where you have a lot of water and your colour mixed together put it on your page and you can blow on it hold it up so it can drip.

For the colours I choose cool colours because blue and pink.

I have also take a picture of what I have done for this here it is.

Drama - Benny

 Hi today we did some activities for the book Benny. We did picture dictation, Role On The Wall, and Ice Berg. Some people might not know what these things are so I will explain and give some examples.

Picture Dictation

Someone could be explain what something looks like or reading a story. They explain and then you are drawing something on what you heard them say. 

Role On The Wall

A role on the wall is when you draw a body, pick a character from what your reading/watching, you then put the emotions that they feel inside of the body.

Ice Berg

An Ice Berg is when you can draw an ice berg shape and draw a line near the middle. On the top of the line you write the emotions it explains in the story and then on the bottom you write the emotions they could feel.

Speaking My Truth - Novel Study - Paper Boy

Hi everyone!
Today ( as in a few days ago ) we are doing reading. My group is doing an novel study. Miss Birth gave us a novel called Paper Boy, Paper Boy is written by Vince Vawter. My first impressions of the novel is, it seems very interesting and I want to know more about it. I think the story relates to speaking our truth is that  I am mostly looking forward to reading the novel and learning more about it.

Chapter 1 - 3 Activities

Summary of Main Events  - Chapter 1 - 3 

Paper Boy is going on a paper route because his friend Art (Rat) is going to a farm with people on his family. Paper boy owes him something so he is doing the paper route for Art. 

Paper Boy has a speaking problem called Stuttering. When he talks he finds it hard for him to sound out the words because his vocal box is not letting the right flow come out. Paper Boy gives his yellow handled knife to Ara T (a man who goes around and collects rubbish) to sharpen. Paper Boy meets someone on his paper route their name is Mrs. Worthington, they don't meet on good terms. Mrs. Worthington thought that Paper Boy called her a (insert a female dog here). They end up on some sort of good terms.

The video I just watched is Vince Vawter reading a few pages of the book.

Vine Vawter sounded like he got some of his stuttering away, but he still has some of it. Vince Vawter sounded like he was from the UK also.

Chapter 4-6  

Summary of main events  - 

Paper boy goes up to Ara T and asks if he has his yellow handle knife, Ara T ignores him. Paper Boy doesn't get his yellow handle knife back at all. Paper Boy is on his paper route and his excited to see Mrs. Worthington. But he sees someone else's car in her driveway that he has never seen before. He goes and knocks on the door and there is man called Charles. He claims to be Mrs. Washington's cousin and helping her with some things.

Personality :  Nice, Smart, Responsible.

Tapa

Today at art hurumanu we finished our tapa cloths. 

What I like about tapa cloth is that we get to do art and learn about its where abouts.

What I would do different is using different colours.

The method we used to outline is charcoal ( which is kinda like chalk.) The charcol is black and is used to do a lot of things.

Contrast/Tone/Colours are different types of things. Tone and Contrast are basically a switch of Black and White. Colours are just colours of all sorts.

The Present Short Film

Hello guys today we watched a short film called The Present. The present is a little short animated film. We have to answer some questions so here they are.
I would describe the boy in the film that he isn't interested in whats in the box his mother put right in front of him. He was also to focused on the video game he was playing.
He didn't like his present at first, mainly because the puppy he got had only three legs. He felt that way because since he only has half of one leg it looks like a really poor joke.
The lesson the boy learned at the end of the film is that everyone and everything is different.
It is important to be grateful for what we have because you don't know when your gonna lose it.
