Writing Assessment Review - WGA

Hi guys today in WGA we looked at reviewing our writing test. We looked at our Term 1 and Term 4 test. We had to look back at our scores and see if we improved or went down. After you looked at your tests and reread them you had to look at what you need to improve to get a level higher on the Rubric score. The 7 things you a scored on are Ideas, Structure, Organization, Vocabulary, Sentence, Punctuation, and Spelling. After you reviewed every thing you have to give yourself some next steps so you know what you should do to improve.

The things I need to improve on are Ideas, Structure, and Vocabulary. My next steps to help me improve are looking back my work more then once so I can fully see what I have done and what I need to look at and look at my structure and what is in my sentence and paragraphs. I need to also learn some other words that are better then just the normal ones so then I can improve with my vocab.

Creative Writing - WGA

Hi guys today in wga we started looking at a photo, Miss Birtch told us a part of the picture and then told us to describe it. Later on after we did that she got us to introduce a character, describe the character, give a reason to why the character is there, introduce a problem, and then we had the choice to resolve the problem or leave it on a cliffhanger. Here is what I wrote and I hope you enjoy.

The pitch black sky was scattered with stars, the dark brown trees twigs was covered in a small layer of snow. The Trees grew bigger and bigger with more snow eventually covering the twigs.
The white snow covered the green grass, small pieces of stray grass poke out of the snow, some close to the tree some far away. Small pawprints followed behind the dark brown cat, the cat was as fluffy as it could get, it was no where near effected by snow.

The dark brown cat had pure green eyes, the cat had many black spots arounds its entire body. The cat was for sure curious, the dark brown cat could never mind its own business. The cat was trying to finds its way into the light brown house. The cat looked around every single nook and cranny but couldn't find a single way in, the cat was very desperate now.

The cat walked around near the front door, the cat could hear something but it didn't know where it was coming from, the cat turned left and then saw a golden fluffy dog. The dog barked at the smaller cat, the cat started running as fast as it could not wanting to get caught. The dog chased after the poor cat. The dog thought that the cat was a toy, the cat on the other hand thought it was going to die.

There was a noise of a door opening and someone talking, the cat took it as a sign and ran straight into the house, the dog shortly followed after. There was a huge ruckus happening inside the house. A human grabbed the collar that was around the dogs neck, and the cat went into the furthest corner. It was quite for a bit, one of the humans went inside of kitchen looking for something, the human pulled out a food can, and feed it to the cat, the cat was confused but ate it.

100 Word Challenge

Hi guys today in wga we did an 100 word challenge. Th picture for the 100 word challenge was a pool. Here is the picture

Here is what I wrote and I hope you enjoy

The smell of chlorine was all around the place, the splashing sounds of water and people screaming were evident as well. We were at a water park. It was a very warm day today and the sun was shining and being as bright as ever. I saw people putting on sunscreen, some having less and some having a lot more, almost making them look like ghosts. I walked around the pool going to the deeper end of the pool, there were a lot of people at the deep end, and less down the shallow. I decided I would jump in.

logo

Hi guys today me and Carla finished what we ad started yesterday. Before you had to make your logo you had to look at some things for inspiration, colour pallets that you might use, some other ideas, fonts that might go with your product, and words or phrases that may go. Our business idea that we thought of was  plushies on a key chain. We just saw some plushies and thought it could be cool as keychains. We came up with your logo by taking colours that would look good together, have a symbol or something that relates to our idea and just put them together. On our logo there is a chain symbol which represents that it is a key chain or there is just a chain. Our idea represents Taha Hinengaro because it can be used as stress toy and more.
Here is our logo.

Persuasive writing review

Hi guys today in wga we are looking at reviewing persuasive writing.  The topic we were given is to write an persuasive essay about te importance of business and enterprise in school. Here is what I wrote and I hope you enjoy it.

I think that it is important to learn about business and enterprise in school. I think that it is important because it helps you in your future in what you actually need and what you want to do when you are older. It just sets you up for the future that is why I think that it is important to learn this in school. Here are some reasons on why it should be taught in school.

It is important to learn business and enterprise in school because it sets you up for your future. It also teaches you how to manage money as well. It teaches you how to not over spend when your buying things, prepares you for your career choices in your future, spending money on needs over wants, making investments that will help you later on, as well as this prepares us for our market day near the end of the term. This also prepares you for when if you want to start your own business you will already know some things that needs to happen and you will be prepared for it. It will help you knowing how to budget when you need it.

Some jobs need you to know how to do this as well. Here are some examples on why you would need this later on in the future. Later on you could want to go to college, but you would have to save to be able to go. Since you learnt how to already save and more in school you would be able to know what to do almost straight away. If you want to start your own business you would need to know how to manage money and other things, in school you should have learned it so you would know what to do what you need, how to advertise your business as well as knowing how to manage your money on buying what you actually need in order to start.

Those were my reasons why it is important to have been taught this in school because you need it for your future since you would basically use it in  your everyday life, and sets you up for what you want to do and more.

B+E - Vocab

Hi guys today and yesterday in wga we have been looking at business and enterprise as well as how to manage money. For the first task that we were given is that we had to make a DLO about what certain words mean. (Ones that a relevant to the subject/the ones we used in the mix in match) Here is the work that i have done and I hope you enjoy it.

Drama

Hi guys today in drama we are writing a reflection, and listing things we enjoy and certain genres or style s that we have learnt during the term. After you did those two you link a video of theatre and say which genre and style it is. Here is what I did and I hope you enjoy it.

Some things that we learnt about was we looked at clowning, F.A.R.T.S Which stood for different types of things (Focus, Action, Role, Tension, and Space), we looked at different types of theatre. The most recent thing we looked at was also more different types of theatre,   Comedy, Tragedy , Melodrama, Physical Drama, and Epic Drama. My favourite game that we played in drama was Park Bench.

1. Tragedy - I enjoy a lot of things about this genre because not all things turn out happy in the end, as well as it is pretty interesting. Something I have seen that is in the movie Romeo and Juliet.
2. Comedy - I like the genre comedy because you need to laugh once in while as well as its fun just to watch people be funny. Something I have watched in this genre is Dead pool.
3. Melodrama - I liked melodrama because I also like action films like Marvel and DC, They also are pretty interesting but you can easily figure out what happens. A film I have watched like this is Spiderman.

WGA - Game

Hi guys today in WGA we started looking at three activites that you could choose out of any of them to do. The activity that I decide to do was create a game, which had you doe this with a partner. I did this with Carla. The game had to include one ball two cones and a five minute timer. It didn't take that long to come up with a game. Here is what we did and I hope you enjoy it.

Create a game activity
Partner - Carla

 . 2x cones

.  1x Ball

Closer Cone

  1. Put the cones 2 - 1 meters apart and grab the ball.

  2. The first team in line has to roll the ball in between the cones without touching the cones in the process.

  3. Each time the person gets the ball in between the cones the cones will get closer and closer.

  4. Each team will have a 5 minute timer to do this and try to get more in between the cones.

Reflection

Hi guys today in WGA We are working on writing a reflection blog since we have done a lot of things that Miss Birtch doesn't know we have done. There are four points that we have to include in our reflection writing. Here is my writing and I hope you enjoy it.

I showed most of my CARR values, I showed commitment by finishing my work on time basically all the time, I showed resilience by still doing my work if I thought it was hard, I showed respect by listening to the teachers and not talking when they are, and I showed achievement by having no over due work that I had to finish on my own time. An update on my arts kete is that I found it pretty boring, I wasn't expecting much while doing it but I found it pretty boring to be honest. I have only done a few stiches for my name as well. I'm working on cross stitching the first letter of my name. I act the same with a reliever teacher because they are still a teacher even though they aren't my main one. A goal that I want to set for the end of the week is having every single piece of work done.

Meme - Reading work

Hi guys today we started reading a story name MeMe & Me. The story is about a girl who gets a new phone but it takes a turn. After you started reading the book you have some questions to do here is what is what I did for it and I hope you enjoy.

There was a girl named Nina who really wanted a phone to the point where she would beg her parents all day for a phone, her parents told her that she would have to make her own money for them to buy her a phone. Eventually Nina started cleaning her grans house for money to get a phone. Her parents ended up buying her phone. When she had her phone she posted a photo of herself but it ended up having blue eyes. Which here friend mentioned to her. Later on she met MeMe.  Later on she goes to the shops with her mum without her phone and MeMe gets really mad and starts being really rude to Nina. Nina later on gets tired and takes out the sim card on her phone and cuts it.
MeMe was someone who Nina meet through her chat logs who was her friend for a bit. I don't know if MeMe is a human or a robot.
I don't really think something like this could happen in real life, it could happen that there is someone you become friends with online but then start being rude to you, but it its unlikely that they will look like you enough to be able to say you could be twins.
I don't know what the author is trying to tell us through the story.

Hurumanu - Reading

Hi guys today I'm doing the work for reading. The book that I'm reading is called Four of a Kind, the book is about a team which has four boys in it, but they feel out of place since they see that here isn't any boys playing besides them. After you read the story there is some questions and vocab words you have to do. Here is the work I did for it and I hope you enjoy.

I think that the problem at the start of the story is that they are confused that there isn't any boys there besides them.
We find out that there is so much boys on the teams because the school couldn't find a rugby coach for that year so they went to netball.
The reaction to there being a few boys on the team is that people were staring, some laughed this was because Dayton had his shirt on backwards.
I think that the moral of this story is that anyone from any gender can play any sports they want, as well as even if there is a sport which is dominated by one gender you shouldn't be afraid to play that sport while being the opposite gender.
In my opinion I don't think that there is any boys or girls sports. If you look at most sports there will be a separate team for girls, boys, or its a mixed team. Also anyone can do any sport they want to despite their gender.

Vocab

Spectators - Spectator means that they are watch someone or they are watching someone do something.
Gleamed - Gleamed means to shine brightly or to use it as someone smiling.
Radius - Radius is a way to describe length or an area.
Erratically - Erratically is a type of behavior which is something unpredictable or doing something fast or silly.
Whakama - Whakama means to be in shame or embarrassed

Bacteria

Hi guys today in science we are looking at bacteria. We watched two videos about bacteria and what it does and all the different types of it. We are also learning about what happens to it and how they live.

Bacteria is shaped like a rod or a spiral. Bacteria is both good and bad since it helps you in different ways as well as its bad. Bacteria is also inside of your cells and is makes up 90% of it. Bacteria also adapts.

WALT
To look and different types of Bacteria.

What is Bacteria?
1. Feeding :
Most bacteria are consumers, this means they cant make their own food in sunlight, which means they have to feed by using other living things. Bacteria doesn't have a digestive system like other things. Bacteria will wait for things to decompose before they eat it. They start to eat things when they are more rotten.

2.
Reproduction :
Bacteria does not have any gender. One bacteria does not need another bacteria to reproduce. The name for the reproduction is Mitosis. They make more bacteria by constantly splitting when they need too. They can split every 15 - 20 minutes. The smaller cells are named daughter cells which means they will become identical, it will be the same colour and look the same. They will keep of splitting unless there isn't any more food. When the get to a certain size they have to spilt, which is the only way bacteria can live.

3.
Excretion :
The food bacteria eat is important to help them be able to live. It gives them energy and helps them grow, damaged parts and also repair them. They pass waste products out of them cells membrane, and into what they are living on or in. They produce substances which could be poisonous if they are living on something or in. Bacteria feeds on living things and cause diseases and are called pathogenic bacteria and they are harmful to you.

4.
Breathing :
All different types of living things need oxygen so their cells can covert food into energy. The process is called respiration. Bacteria are able to carry out both aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Respiration is when there is heaps of oxygen Anaerobic respiration are carbon dioxide which is breathed out, water, and heat. That is why bacteria starts to decompose substances like a dead body. The temperature goes up. Bacteria can breathe even if there is even no oxygen.

Women's Suffrage - Choice Board DLO

Hi, guys today in Nga Tangata P4 We looked at more things to do with the Women's Suffrage movement. For this period we split off into our reading groups to look at some more articles and reading tasks to do. For my group, we looked at three different texts that were all different lengths but were about the same kind of things. They were pretty informative texts as well. For the task, we had to do we looked at a bingo board and chose some tasks to do. I only did two tasks because Carla and I came up with a different task to do instead of one of the other tasks that were on the choice board. We decided to make a Kahoot. Here is the DLO I created for the two tasks on the choice board. I hope you enjoy it.

Women suffrage

Hi, guys today in Nga Tangata P3 we were looking at things to do with women suffrage and Kate Sheppard. We looked at some videos about her and looked at some facts. For something we have to do is do some Vocab words. After you had finished the vocab you started on reading a small article and doing the questions which were given. Here it is and I hope you enjoy it.

Suffrage - Suffrage means the right to vote in political elections.
Convince - Convince means trying to talk to someone and try to have them believe in what you are telling them.
Parliament - Parliament means a group of people who represent a nation in politics.
Prohibitionist - Prohibitionist is someone who participants in the prohibition (Which is the action of forbidding something)

Questions -
In 1867, Maori men gained the right to be able to vote on who would be the government.
I think that people back in the olden days thought that women shouldn't vote was because worldwide it was believed that women should stay in the kitchen, clean, and also stay home to look after their children.
The statement "Drinking their wages" means that the men who made the money went out to go drinking instead of help spending their money to help their families.
The WCTU helped the poor by visiting hospitals, prisons, set up soup kitchens, and also tried to get men to stop drinking their wages.
The main form of protest that women used to change the law was people writing newspapers, giving out leaflets, and also holding protest gatherings which speeches.
Kate Sheppard is on our $10 note to remember what Kate Sheppard did and to also remember her.

Using images from google with permisson

Hi, guys today in Tuhura we looked at why it is important to use images with permission. We did a short activity where it was a small thing about you and putting some pictures in. But we had to find some images that would allow us to use them. To do this you go on tools and the press usage rights and the press creative commons license. You have to put some images in for things about me as well. A short question is "Why is it important to use Google images with permissions only? Add your profile that you have created"
My answer is that it's important to use images with permission only because if it's something that someone has created they may have wanted to get paid for it, or they may feel sad to disappointed that the image that they have created is being used without permission. As well as you may get copyrighted by the person who made it and you may have to pay them for it. Here is my All about me and I hope you enjoy it.

Drama - Five elements

Hi, guys today in drama we looked at all different types of things but we were kind of focused on the five elements. The five elements have an abbreviation to them, the abbreviation for it is FARTS. F stands for focus, A stands for action, R stands for the role, T stands for tension, And S stands for space.

The elements mean different types of things, Role means who am I, Action is what you are doing, Focus means What do I ant, Space/time is Where, and what time and tension are what is in the way.

I chose a character and their name is Satoru Fujinuma.
My character is from a show and it's named Erased.

My characters role is the main character (Satoru Fujinuma
His focus is trying to get back in time and saving a girl from the past.
The time of it is his present time and 18 years in the past.
Something that he is doing is trying to save people while he tries to save himself.
Something that is in his way is his old teacher in primary/kindergarten, who is trying to stop him from saving the girl in the past.

The beatles

Hi, guys today in WGA we all worked on the same information for this day. We did the 5 of august in music. Our statement was The Beatles release singles "Yellow Submarine" and "Eleanor Rigby" In the UK.
After looking at the statement we all did some research about it then shared what we found. Shortly after we worked on a DLO about it with all the facts I have gathered. I did my DLO on biteable, here it is and I hope you enjoy it.

100 word challenge

Hi,  guys today wga I started working on my 100-word challenge. There were two pictures that you could choose from and I choose to do the one where someone is passing the ball in hockey. Here is my 100-word challenge and I hope you enjoy it.
x
I was walking around on the turf trying to figure out what to do. It was kind of boring not having someone to pass to or even play with. I decided that I would just pat to the wall and make it bounce back to me. I did that for a while until someone came up to me and asked if I wanted to play with them. I took the chance and played with them, we passed the ball around a couple of times. A few minutes later other people joined in. After some simple passes, we decided to play a small game

August 2 DLO

Hi, guys today in WGA I finished off my history on this day dlo. here I what I did and I hope you enjoy it.

Chilli Tasting

In science, we are doing stuff about chilis. We have to do some research on chillies and also name the chemical that makes the chilis hot. Here is what I did for this and I hope you enjoy it.

Section1: A chilli is a type of fruit. The chemical in chillis that make it hot is called Capsaicin. Capsaicin makes chillis hot because it triggers calcium ions to enter nearby neurons.

Section 2;

Section 3:The six hottest chillies are named
1. Carolina Reaper
2. Moruga Trinidad Scorpion
3.7 pot douglah
4. Primo
5. Butch T Trinidad Scorpion
6. Naga viper
The Scoville chilli scale, this works by scale measures the amount of capsaicin in the pepper and then assigns it a number rating in Scoville Heat Units.

Aim :
To see which is the best way to cool down the hot chillies tastes in your mouth while eating chilli.

Hypothesis :
I think that coke will help it cool down the best.

Equipment :
1. Milk
2. Water
3. Coke
4. Tasting cup
5. Chilli

Method

1. You will work in groups of three for this experiment. Each person in the group will use one of the drinks with the chilli. You will then swap results in your group so that everyone has the same results.
2. Each member of the group needs to have their own tasting cup. This will be used for putting the different liquids in as we cool off the chilli in your mouths.
3. place a piece of chilli in your mouth.
4. After 10 seconds you will drink the liquid immediately
You will be recording the following using yes or no.
- The effectiveness of the liquid immediately.
- The effectiveness of the liquid 10 seconds after.

Chilli Tasting Results
Record: Yes or No

Immediately

After 5 minutes

Milk

YesNo

Water

YesYes

Coca Cola

YesYes

Summary and Results -

Milk did not take away the taste immediately but it did take away the taste after 5 minutes
Coke took away the effect immediately for me and it did the same thing after 5 minutes.
Water had a small effect immediately and had a greater effect after 5 minutes.
The summary is the most effective drink to take away the taste immediately would be milk.

Conclusion
And milk could be a solution when eating spicy foods- literally, That's because milk helps your mouth handed capsaicin, an oily chemical compound in chilli peppers, capsaicin binds to a receptor in the tongue and creates a burning sensation casein protein found in milk can also bind to the capsaicin and wash it away.

Vocab and Timeline.

Hi, guys today in Nga Tangata we looked at the climate change protest that had started in New Zealand. After we looked at some things to do with the climate change protest we looked at an article and a youtube video of Jacinda Ardern speaking on climate change. After you had watched the video and read the article you had two activities to do. The activities were that you had to write a timeline on what happened when the protest first started and till the end. After you did that you would go on to the vocabulary task that was given, or you could do that vocab first. I did my timeline on paper. Here is my vocab and I hope you enjoy it.

Climate Change - Climate change is a rise in global temperatures.
Campaign - Something organized to achieve a goal.
Demonstration - Demonstration is when you show how to do something or giving proof of something
Zero Carbon - Zero carbon means that there is no carbons are being produced by a product or a service.

Springbok Tour - Mirror image

Hi, guys today in Nga Tangata we did some reading. My group read about the Springbok tour. We looked at 3 different stories. The story that is the main focus is called Mirror Image, Mirror image is a story on the Springbok Tour and showing two different points of view of two different girls around the same age. After reading the story we had to write a paragraph on the similarities in the point of view and the differences between the two. Also a small thing of why you think that the title is suitable for the story. Here is what I wrote and I hope you enjoy it.

Some similarities between the point of view are that they both think that it is fair that people of different races are allowed to play. When

Meggie was walking to the stadium she wasn’t there to watch the game

but she was there to protest. Some differences between their point of view are that Meggie was protesting for other people, while Zodaw was at home watching the game with her father and her neighbour, even though she wasn’t that interested in rugby at all. Zodaw did see Meggie smile at the camera while she was walking away from the policemen.

Zodwa saw this and thought things were going to change for good.

Zodaw also lives in a different country than Meggie. I think that Mirror

Image is a suitable title for this book because it showed two different points of view that help see both sides, which kind of relates to the title.

Touchpad Slides

Hi guys today in Tuhura we're working on cyber smart. For this period we looked at using or touchpads correctly and how to use them. We worked on a slide that gave us some activities to do which helped us using a touchpad. Here is the slide that I did and I hope you enjoy it.

Why you should listen to music - persuasive writing

Hi, guys today in Te Ao Whanui we started writing on a new topic. We were told that you can write something that you are passionate about and persuade whoever is reading it we have to persuade them here is what wrote and I hope you enjoy

Heaps of people listen to any type of music every day. You also hear music everywhere, on the radio, at school, inside your home, in all types of ads, youtube videos, in movies, and more. Imagine having no music it would feel like certain things are out of place since music is basically everywhere we go. It would also feel like life would be kind of boring since it’s good to listen to music every now and then. I have some reasons why you should listen to music. Here they are

My reasoning for why you should listen to music is that it helps you calm down and be focused. When doing your work or making something listening to music can really help you keep focused or even be relaxed. I feel like when I’m writing something I find writing more enjoyable while listening to music because sometimes I get ideas from the certain type of music I’m listening to as well as I’m way more focused and it’s more enjoyable. It was also scientifically proven that music is a brain workout, it can reduce anxiety, blood pressure, pain, and it also can improve sleep quality. Another thing it can do is improve your mood. Music also has a role in movies, it can set an atmosphere for what is going on and also maybe tell people what is going on through music. For another example when walking on your own you can wear some headphones or not and just play some music and be calmer.

Some examples of this are while listening to music while working out can help you do it more efficiently as well as more enjoyable. Maybe when you are sad or angry you could listen to music to calm you down or improve your mood. Also depending on the type of music, you listen to it can help you with different types of emotions. When listening to music you can sometimes get some ideas for writing something, drawing or painting, or be inspired to make anything from listening to music. Music can also quiet down people if they are talking too much o being too loud, listening to something may reduce their voice or they may not speak while listening.

Those were my reasonings and examples on why you should listen to music, it calms you down, improves your mood, and helps you keep focused on whatever you are doing at the time. That is why you should listen to music.

Want-s week 9 writing

Hi, guys last Friday I finished my wants writing here it is hope you enjoy it.

There is more than one person who created the phone. Their names are Martin cooper, W. Rae

Young, Eric Tigerstedt, and Donald Cox. The phones were created in

1973, that’s how long they have been on the earth. People use their

phones every day, imagine how it would be like not having your

phone to help you with simple tasks. It would feel pretty weird since

you have gotten used to using your phone every day. Here is why I think that you should have a phone.

Phones help you a lot, they are used for simple communication,

you can call people, or text them if you prefer. They are also used for

different things as well. Taking photos without using just a big camera, you

can watch TV shows or movies on it, looking up stuff if you don’t know what

something means, and more. Phones are also simple to use for all different types of things if you

want to buy something from the shops but don’t have the energy to get out of bed or go out of your house you could just order it online.

Phones can be used as a source of entertainment which can be used offline

or online. For offline use, you are limited to things you can use and what you

can’t use but it is still pretty helpful. For example, you can be driving somewhere

and not know where you are going you could just pull up google maps which you

can use offline if you put on a function before you can use it. And then just search

up the place you want to go and where you are it gives you a fast and simple way to

get to where you want. Another example is that you can be walking around with a friend

but they go a different way and then you lose them. You could just send them a text or call them and ask where they are and they just tell you where they are.

Think about what would happen if you didn’t have phones.

You would probably not be able to do simple things in simple and fast ways.

Though you can be able to do different things without using your phone

though it could be a slowed process doing it instead of just doing probably

in a few small and simple steps using your phone. Though cellphones came from other phones which were made way before them. The first phone was created all the way back in 1876, which is around 140 years ago or more,

which is a long time ago, none of us would be alive during that time. A few people created the

first telephone whose names are Alexzander Graham Bell, Antonio Meucci, Amos Dollar, Charles A. Cheevers, and John Pierce. They should be thanked for the cell phones we have today.

That is why I think you should have phones, from all the examples and reasons I have given in my other paragraphs you can tell that you should have phones because it is easier.

Do now - Writing

Hi, guys today in Te Au Whhanui we are starting off with a do now activity, the statement for today is CARR stamps encourage students to make positive choices. Here is what I wrote and I hope you enjoy it.

I don't agree with the statement that CARR stamps encourage students to make positive choices. Even if students do get CARR stamps for doing work and stuff, I don't think they would care. Here is why I disagree.

Most student's I've meant don't really care about CARR stamps. CARR stamps also don't really do a lot. The CARR stamps usually are just there to say you do your work or have a positive attitude in class. Most teachers don't even use the CARR stampers to stamp your cards in the first place. Most of the time I get CARR stamps I just either leave them in my pocket or they are just at my house on my desk. I don't care for CARR stamps because they really do nothing, as well as it's kind of just a waste of paper and ink. There are a few things CARR cards do, if you get 5 full CARR cards you get a post card to home, 10 full CARR cards a 5 dollar voucher to the cafe, and 20 full CARR cards just give you 10 dollars to the hub or to the cafe, which I feel like isn't really that much. When I get CARR cards I don't care I just usually shove them in my pocket and forget about them until I check. I don't enjoy working up to the gifts you get because it isn't much and you could probably just get way more for just asking your parents for some money.

Persuasive Writing - Should 7-8 have phones at school?

Hi, guys today in Te Ao Whanui we are starting a Do Now Activity the statement that was put is "Should year 7-8s have phones at school" Here is what I did for the writing and I hope you enjoy it.

Some people are allowed phones at school but it's only year 10's and up. But I think that year 7-8s should be allowed their phones at school. Here is why I think that years 7-8 should be allowed to use their phones at school.

I think that it's reasonable that year 7-8's should have their phones at school because some people might actually need them. They may need them because they need to take the bus and if they miss the bus they can call their parents and tell them that they will be late or ask for them to be picked up.
Also if some students walk home and it starts raining suddenly, they could just get their phones out and call or text their parents and ask if they can get picked up because it is raining. There could also be a meeting for a club they have after school and they just find out but their parents don't know, they could just text their parents and tell them.

Year 7-8's have their phones at school could also have them having more power on their Chromebooks. This is because some people go on their Chromebooks during intervals and lunch which results in having less power on their Chromebook for work time, if they had phones they could be able to go on their phones and play games or just look at things on their phone so that they have more power on the Chromebooks for school work.

That is why I think that year 7-8's are allowed their phones at school.

It is important that Year 7-8 do Friday Sport

Today in Te Ao Whanui we are doing a small task to start us off for the period. There is a statement on the TV saying "It is important that year 7-8 do Friday sport" Now you have to rite if you agree or not. Here is what I did for the writing and I hope you enjoy it.

Every day on Friday for 2 hours you go off and do a sports option. This is important to do, here is why.

Most of the time people in school are mostly focusing on school work and making their brain work. Though if there isn't sport getting into any time at school, the kids at the school won't be fit, they would get exercise every week which is important to keep fit and healthy. Doing it on Fridays is a nice break for kids at school because they don't have to do work all day which they have done over the full week. There is also a good variety of sports to choose from to do on Fridays, which I think is good because if you don't like one sport you can choose from the other ones. Doing Friday sports can also have people realise that they like a sport and they can go on to different teams outside of school. Friday sports is two hours which is a good enough time to do sports for and to get the right amount of exercise for the week. Instead of just 7-8's doing Friday sports it would be good for others years to do it as well so they can get exercise during the week as well, the only other sports they would do during the week would be PE, which year 10 and higher have a choice to do it or not which means if they don't choose to do it they won't stay fit unless they do sport outside of school or during breaks.
That is why I think that it is important to do Friday sports.

Music - Orchestras

Hi, guys today in music we were looking at Orchestras. There we some questions you had to research and give a good answer, you could do it on slides, docs, or straight onto your blog. Here is what I did for it and I hope you enjoy it.

They seat the instruments mainly strings in the front woodwinds further back, then brass at the back, and sometimes the higher-pitched instruments are on the left and lower-pitched instruments are on the right. There are quite a lot of the families in orchestras, the string family, Woodwind family, Brass family, and keyboards and harps. The conductor is the most important in an orchestra because they lead the whole thing, they keep people who are playing instruments on task. The biggest family in an orchestra is the string family. There are orchestras in New Zealand, there is one in Wellington named New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the abbreviation for it is NZSO. People get into an orchestra that you nearly have to attend a great music school, and at least at a master degree level. They also have to have been working with a teacher who had played in an orchestra  Seating plan: the modern classical orchestra & the piano – A Piano Teacher Writes…

Student Summit

Hi, guys today I went over to Hornby Primary School to present and do some workshops for the student summit. For the student summit, I presented with Carla on the website Canva. I was kind of nervous presenting because I don't really like to talk in front of others. Though it went pretty well with basically everyone sharing their posters and stuff they made to Miss Tozer. My favourite part of this would probably be watching people do the stop motion. The student summit was kind of boring since all of the workshops I did I quickly realized that I have done them before. The first one I did I didn't do though. While presenting it went surprisingly well and had more people in the classroom than I thought there would be.
If you don't know what the Student Summit is, it's when different schools from the same cluster come together in one place and share what they have been working on during the time. People get to choose what they want to present and then share it with other kids from different classes. Before you present it you have to make a slide or something else that explains what the website or tool you are sharing is, how to use it, give some examples of what to do and then the next day you o to a different school or stay at your own and present it. The two workshops that I did today was Coggle and Wedio. Wedio was we video, which I have used before so I didn't really learn much. Coggle was something that I haven't done before, Coggle was kind of weird but it was really simple to use.

Persuasive Writing - Clothes

Hi, guys today in Te Ao Whanui we are doing persuasive writing. For this period we looked at doing the OREO plan. Using the OREO plan is figuring out what you're going to talk about which is an opinion, then giving a reason that backs up your opinion, an example for your reasoning, and your opinion once again at the end of your writing. Here is what I did for this and I hope you enjoy it.

Let's talk about clothes. Clothes were created around 114,000 or 30,000 years ago. The first article of clothing would most likely just be made out of fur, leather, leaves, or grass which would've to be draped or wrapped around the body. Think of how life would be without clothes? It would feel weird right? This is why I think you need clothes to survive.

I think you should need clothes to survive because in freezing cold weather you could get hypothermia and possibly die. When it's raining hard you get saturated, clothes can prevent those two reasons I just gave you. When it's freezing cold you wear long-sleeved tops, cardigans, puffer jackets and more. When it is pouring down rain you wear a rain jacket which is waterproof. Even if the weather wasn't a problem going around not wearing clothes is illegal and you can get arrested. Also, you could get skin problems from not wearing clothes which is unhealthy.

Examples of why it is bad to walk around wearing no clothes are that you can get sunburnt from not wearing anything, you could also possibly get skin cancer, avoiding getting sunburnt is that you could just wear some clothes that don't show as much skin or put on sunscreen. When you are hot, you could just wear tank tops and shorts which prevent you from just walking around places naked. Cold? Just wear a jacket, pants, sweaters. As you can see from the few reasons I have given you and what I said in my introduction that you clearly can't live without clothes without getting skin problems, or even dying of different types of weathers.

Persuasive writing

Hi, guys today in Te Ao Wahnui we are looking at persuasive writing. We were given a statement which is cats are better pets than dogs. Now you have to write why you disagree or agree with it or not. Here is what I wrote and I hope you enjoy it.

I disagree with the statement cats are better pets than dogs. I disagree because dogs do way more than cats do. Cats usually just lay around and sleep all day and then go out at night time, then they expect you to feed them when they want food. Though you do end up feeding them anyways. Dog's you can do way more with, you can go out for a walk with them, you can play games outside and inside with them, you can also lay down and chill with them on the couch. You can also do this with cats but cats usually do that anyway, or they will just move away from you. That's why I think dogs are better than cats.

Needs vs Wants

Hi guys last week in Te Ao Whanui we looked at Needs vs Wants. We were told to make a DLO explaining what a need and a want are and providing why something is a need or a want. Here is the DLO I did for the work and I hope you enjoy it.

Expected behaviors - Highlight

Hi, guys today in wananga we looked at something called Expected Behavior. We were given a sheet that had a list of expected behavior. We got a highlighter or a marker and then we started highlighting the things we know we already do. Once we were done doing that we had to write about something which is on the sheet that you have highlighted and say why you know you do it well. After you've done that you now choose two things that you haven't highlighted and then write about why you don't do it and how you are going to fix it. Here is what I did for the activity and I hope you enjoy it.

Something I know I do well is Being ready for learning. I know that I do this well because I'm always ready at the door, I haven't been late this year at all and I have all of the correct gear for the day. I can keep spaces tidy and not run around and making a mess because instead of just going around making a mess I am doing m work instead. I move on the first bell before the second bell rings because once I hear the bell I get my bag and go to my class. I can mindful of others and know what I say can hurt them or make them feel some type of way. I always bring my device charged and if it's not charged I always bring a charger or go to Barry in the morning and borrow one.
For something that I don't do well is ask questions and ask for help. I know I don't do this well because I normally ask someone else to as for help as well as I don't ask a lot of questions because I don't have the confidence to speak up. For the other thing, I don't really know how to do is encourage and include all my classmates, I don't do this well because I don't really like talking to others which I don't know and trying to encourage them and include this they are kind of difficult.

DLO - Maths

Hi, guys today in maths we started looking at some video and finishing the worksheet we had done a week ago. After you did all of those you had to make a DLO explaining the different things. You could work with a partner so I decided that I would work with Carla. Here is the work we did and I hope you enjoy it.

Kiwi Innovators - Electric Fence

Hi, guys today in Te Ao Whanui I finished a kiwi innovator task. For the task, I choose the electric fence. Here is the creating task I did and I hope you enjoy it.

100 word challenge

Hi, guys today in wananga I've been doing the 100-word challenge for the fast finisher task. The picture was a microphone and a bunch of people blurred out behind it. I didn't really know what to write at first but when I started writing it I got an idea and just went with it. If you don't know what a hundred-word challenge is, it is when you get a picture or a video and then you have to write something from someone's pov in that picture or video, but you can only do it in hundred words which is the most challenging part of it. Here is the picture we got given and my work, I hope you enjoy it.

The day was cold and foggy. I thought it would be warmer but I should get over it anyways. I was going to go up and do a speech in front of hundreds of people. This was really nerve-racking, I have spoken in front of a group before but this is tenfold the number of people I have talked to. I need to get over it though, I need to recite my lines so I can remember what I’m going to say, what if I forget? My throat is a bit dry. Oh, it's my turn now time to go.

Wananga - STEM

Hi, guys today in Wananga we started looking at our next kete. Which is STEM. STEM can also be STEAM but they aren't sure if the A should be there or not. STEAM stands for Science Technology Engineering Art Maths. For today we started a small activity using A4 paper. You had to work in a group of 3 and try to cut the paper so you can fit through it. But you couldn't use tape nor could you use glue. You could cut it in any way you thought of just everyone in your group had to fit through it. I worked with Carla and Chelsea. We thought that we could just cut through the middle at first but that didn't work so we tried to think of other ways we could do it. We then thought of just going in a circle and cutting it so the paper was small lines, we used the whole paper so it would be pretty big so we could all just fit through it.
If the paper was bigger it would've been easier to find a way to fit through.
If the paper was smaller it would be harder to find a way, but using the same way we did with the A4 paper you would still be able to do it.
If the cuts weren't as deep I feel like it would still be the same.
If the cuts were closer together the paper would be smaller and easier to break.
If the cuts were further apart the lines would be bigger and it wouldn't take as long to cut.

Te Ao Whanui

Hi, guys today in Te Ao Whanui we looked at a video called Kaupapa on the couch Get on the Waka! The video was basically just about wakas. Then had a small book to read which is Waka Tapu. We now have to do 3 tasks from a task board. It's kind of like a bingo board but instead, you can choose any task to do.  Here is the work I did and I hope you enjoy it.

Creative writing task
Imagine you are on a Waka Tapu voyage across the pacific. Describe what it would have been like, hearing smelling, and seeing.

The sound of water splashing against wood fills my ears. I'm sitting down in the waka not really knowing what to do. Staring up at the bright blue sky, trying to make shapes out of many clouds that littered the sky. The water is a dark deep blue. The nice cool breeze makes my hair blow softly.  In the distance, I can see trees and land but we aren't going there. It would be nice though. The weird smell of saltwater fills my nostrils, this isn't a pleasant smell but I'll have to deal with it for the time being.

Words of feelings

Happy - They are feeling happy because something good happened around them or they are just feeling happy.
Sad - They feel sad because something bad happened to them or someone that they care for.
Lonely - They feel lonely because there aren't people around them or they are being left out.
Angry - They feel angry because someone was being annoying.
Excited - They feel excited because something really good happened or they are excited that something is going to happen.

Traditional instrument

Fast finisher Task

The person who deserves recognization for this is the person who wrote it. The book was well written and explained most things.
Something that is getting in the way of this is the government.
In New Zealand, this would be a problem because there is not really a lot of Maori people who aren't out of the country.
We will know when this is acceptable when the government is allowing this to happen.
This is relevant to me and others because it is happening in our country.

Te Ao Whanui - 3d Cat Armour

Hi, guys today in Te Ao Whanui our group was looking at critical thinking. We watched a minute of one video and then looked at some articles that had some inventions on them. You had to choose one of those inventions and read about it and do some questions about it. We also had to watch a video which was explaining what critical thinking is. There was an article that I looked at for a long time so I just chose that one which was 3d Cat Armour. This person made armor for cats, the armor was black and it spikes on the top, it also has a small piece of amour for the cattail. Since this is the introduction we have to answer a question that Miss Birtch had gave us which is a critical thinking question.
For the kiwi kid's articles, it isn't bad but I feel like it would be better to read other articles which are from some other places around the world besides just New Zealanders as well as instead of just hearing kids voices hearing older people would be better as well.

People that benefit from this are cat lovers who want to see their own cats in cat amour.
This may be harmful to other cats if another tries to hit one that is wearing the armor and might get hurt by the spikes.
The strength of this is that your cat can cool, your cat could also not be affected by other cats trying to hit it. The weaknesses of this are that the parts might come off as shown in the video that that parts can come off.
It is getting in the way mainly because it may aggravate the cat because it is poking near the inside of the ear as well as poking into the cat's cheeks.
Areas for improvement for this invention is that you can change the helmet around so it's not constantly poking the cat in the ear as well as its cheeks.
We can more information from the person who made and came up with it as well as other people who have 3d printed out one for their own cat.
We will know we have succeeded when cats feel comfortable to wear the full amour without just falling over or trying to get it off of them.
When this can cause a problem is when it hurts the cat.
People should know about this because they may want to see their cats wearing cool armour. We have allowed this to happen because there aren't really any problems with hat cat Armour, and it looks cool.
This is similar to another amour for cats or other costumes for animals.

I did some research to find a second source to back up the article and found a video that the creator of 3d cat armour made, I also found an article about it as well, here is the link to both.
