Hi guys today in Music we were doing the 1980's. Last week we did the 1990's. For the 1980's we did some research on some movies from the 1980's , now since it's Friday we do the blog about what we did for the week. Now we have to write about what a string instrument is, what are the parts of the ukulele, how do you play a string instrument, and one thing you learnt this week. Here is what I did and I hope you enjoy it.
A string instrument is an instrument that has strings. How you play a string instrument is you can pluck, rub the instrument with a bow, and you can strum it as well. The parts of the ukulele is there is the Head, Neck, Nut, Tuners, Frets, Fret spaces, Fret board, Body, Sound hole, Strings, Saddle, and Bridge. One thing that I learnt this week is that I figured out that I can play the ukulele kind of good.
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 7 and in 2021 I will be a year 8. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Reading comp - Suffrage Movement
Hi, guys today in Te Ao Whanui I did another reading comp. There was some question on the slide you had to do as well as a creating task with 5 facts about Kate Sheppard. Here is what I did for both of them and I hope you enjoy it.
Only white own-landing men could vote. Kate Sheppard thought it was unfair for only men to be able to vote even though women were just as intelligent enough to vote. The suffrage movement made it for women to be able to vote in New Zealand. Australia was the second country to let women be able to vote. The first women MP was Elizabeth McCombs and she was elected in 1993. Kate Sheppard is on the $10 note.
School Bell
Hi, guys today in wananga we are looking at the six60 questions that are on the notices. Here are the questions and my answer I hope you enjoy it.
What is the name of the song? What is the song about? Who are the members of Six60? When did the band form and where? What do you think of the themed/Music bells?|
The name of the school bell is "All She Wrote" I think the song is about just living their life. The members of Six60 are Matiu Walters, Marlon Gerbes, Chris Mac, Eli Paewai, Ji Fraser, and Hoani Matenga. Six60 formed in 2008 and in Dunedin. I think the bell isn't that bad I like the song.

Moana's Watch - Maths
Hi, guys today in Maths we started on a new problem solver. Last week we did one on arrow boards, we had to make something to explain how we solved the problem and now we have to do the same thing but just with the equation, we got today. The question was Moana set her digital watch at 13:00:00 on the last day of April, Unfortunately, the watch loses 11 seconds a day, What is the time on Moana's watch when it is 13:00:00 on the last day of May. I and Carla worked together on the problem, we decided it would be the best thing to figure out how many days were in may, may has 31 days in it, but since she set it on the last day of April it would count as one more day on 31, which means we have 32 days. We then worked our 32x11 and we got 352, this was useless but we still did it anyway. Carla worked out that over 7 days she will lose 1 minute and 17 seconds. We also decided that it would be better to find out how many weeks were in May and there are 4 weeks. We then did 7x4 and worked it out which is 28. We then figured out the time which we found out it was 5 minutes and 8 seconds. The ending time will be 12:54:52.
Te Ao Whanui - Pa Tuwatawata
Hi, guys today in Te o Whanui we started reading a book for our group. After we read the book there were some questions that you had to answer. After you had done that you had to do a worksheet for the pa. Here is what I did and I hope you enjoy it.
The purpose of a Pa was they were built to protect their kainga, some Pa wasn't built for permanent use but often had food stores in them.
Some advantages Pa offered against the British Superpower were that there was a Double layer of palisades made from tree trunks and harakeke padding, an Underground rua connected by a network of tunnels, stepped trenches were 1.8 meters deep, trenches provided hidden firing positions.
Some features of Pa is that it has houses, pits for storage, Storehouses, and lines of human-made stockades,
Stockade is a barrier that is made out of wooden stakes that are built for defensive.
Earthworks are barriers and protections molded from the land.
Rangatira is a high-ranked person.
Pekerangi is kind of like a wall but not really its made out of thin manuka and tupakihi.
I am Malala - Task 2
Hi, guys today in wananga we are doing the novel study, I already finished task 1 already so now I'm moving on to task 2. Task 2 is writing or talking about a chapter in the book that you choose, there was supposed to be a video that you could watch but the video was restricted so I couldn't watch it.
I chose to write a paragraph about chapter 3. Here is my paragraph about chapter 3 and I hope you enjoy it.
In chapter three Malala wished to have a magical pen she saw on a TV show named Shaka Laka Boom Boom. The magical pen as if you drew something it would come to life, for example, if you wanted money you could draw money and you would get it. The main person in the TV show was a hero, he would protect people in danger. At night she talked to god about wanting the magical pen and asked god to leave the magical pen in the cupboard. Every time she was left at home she would check the cupboard to see if the magical pen there, but it was never there. She was told to take the rubbish in the bin so she did, she was walking to the rubbish in and saw children looking for things in the bin, she wanted to talk to them but she was too scared. Later that day she wrote to god asking if he knew that children had to do these types of things but realized that he did know about it.
I am Malala - Activity
Hi, guys today in Wananga we read the chapters of our novel study. After that, there was a work sheet we had to do. For the worksheet, you had to write some facts about the person, some characteristics, and two things that were the same and different from each other. Here is what I did and I hope you enjoy it.

New Zealand Sign Language
Hi, guys today in Te Ao Whanui we are looking at something for New Zealand Sign language week, we are looking at an article that gives us some information about the topic after you finished reading the article you were given some questions to answer. Here is what I wrote for the answer and I hope you enjoy it.
New Zealand Sign Language started being an official language in 2006 because of the New Zealand Sign Language Act.
There was a need for New Zealand sign language because NZSL has a distinct vocabulary and grammar which was developed in the deaf community.
Two facts about this are that 23,000 people in New Zealand have some knowledge of NZSL and only 3,000 - 4,000 of those people are deaf. Also, did you know that only about 5% of deaf children have deaf parents and acquire NZSL from birth as a native language?
The city that NZSL began in was Christchurch in the 1800s.
Since I finished all of the questions I got to write my name in sign language, here is a video of me doing my name and I hope you enjoy it.
It is important to have NZSL interpreters at Jacinda's speeches because it is better for deaf people to look at instead of looking at subtitles as well as it also spreads awareness for the deaf community in New Zealan d. If Jacinda's speeches didn't have an interpreter for deaf people it would be harder for them to know what is going on in their country, even though some deaf people can lip read but that could be harder because some people speak differently, there are subtitles but sometimes you can't see the subtitles that well because of the background. Also, some countries might see that Jacinda has interpreters that do sign language behind her and think that it would be a good idea for them to have it as well.
Music
Hi, guys today in music we started doing the 1990's decade. We worked on a slide and put multiple things on there about the genre, artist, and some music from the 1990s. Since I finished that I'm doing this blog as a fast finisher. This blog is the same as we did last week, every Friday we do a blog about what you learnt about in the week and what a woodwind instrument is. Here is what I wrote and I hope you enjoy it.
Woodwind instruments are something you blow into more gently, even though the name is woodwind it doesn't have to be made out of wood. One of the woodwind instruments are a flute, and how you play is that you hold it across your face there would be a hole near the tip of the flute, you blow down into the flute and press the buttons which are on the flute and you should produce some sounds from the flute.
Something we learnt this week which was on Wednesday was doing more work with the recorders and trying to play an actual song instead of just trying to get some of the tunes correct, I also learnt that you have to cover the holes correctly or it will make a high pitched squeaking nose instead of making a nice sound.

Easyio
Hi, guys today in Te Ao Whanui we have to do a reading comp. The one I chose to do was Easyio, which is basically a way to make healthy yogurt on your own without buying it from the shops. After you read the article there are some questions to answer. here it is I hope you enjoy it.
A science teacher named Len Light made the Easyio.
I think that they chose the name Easyio because it's easy to make yogurt with the Easyio I'm not sure why he added io on the end though.
Yogurt does not remain healthy even if it's in the fridge in the supermarket is because the live bacterial culture deteriorates over time.
Deteriorate means something becomes worsens over time.
The steps to make yogurt in the Easyio are to get the yogurt powder mix with cold water in it, then fill the thermos with hot boiling water, and leave it on the bench overnight.
The Easyio company was sold in 2010.
----
Since we finished the questions that were on the reading comp we got to make our own brand of yogurt, you had to do the main colors, what it looks like, description of your brand, and something that makes your brand different from the others. Here is what I created and I hope you enjoy it.

100 word invention Challenge
Hi guys, I was working on the 100-word invention challenge, the thing was just writing about an invention you wouldn't be able to live with and why, this is what I've done for it and I hope you enjoy it.
An invention that I don’t think I could live without is probably electricity, mainly because there would be no light, and basically anything that runs on electricity it wouldn't be able to run anymore. Before this was invented people would have to do things without being able to search things up or using fire to cook things which would be kind of dangerous if you wouldn’t know how to use one properly. Also, it would be weird to not grow up with lights and using lanterns or candles instead of an actual light bulb, I wouldn't be able to live.
I am Malala - Fast finisher
Hi, guys today in wananga I finished what I had to do for novel study so now I'm on to the fast finisher task, there was a question that was given and then you had to write a paragraph on your opinion, here is what I wrote and I hope you enjoy it.
Malala was startled to see scavenger children collecting waste to sell at the dump. This is common practice for children in many poor countries - not just Pakistan. What do you think about this job for children? Do you think it's an appropriate place for children to work? Why or why not?
In my opinion, I don't think it's that bad for them to work like that mainly because of the reason that they don't have money. But maybe instead the parents of the children could go do it instead because it may be dangerous for the children if something did happen the parents could most likely defend themselves more than the children could.
I am Malala - Chp 3-6
Hi, guys today in wananga we started reading our new chapters for the novel study. For I am Malala which is the book I'm reading we had to read chapters 3 to 6. After that, there were some questions for two chapters, chapters 3 and 4. Here is my work that I did, I hope you will enjoy it.
------
Malala's mother isn't educated because most women were brought up to follow the dictates of their religion.
Mohammed Naeem Khan was a friend of Malala's father.
I think that Malala's childhood is very different than mine, there are many reasons why I think that. We grew up in different countries with different religions in them, when I was growing up I didn't have to worry about not being able to get an education.
What I think about Malala's view of her family and culture overall is that she loves her family even though her brothers can be annoying, but culture wise I don't think that she loves it I'm pretty sure she thinks it's unfair.

Music
Hi, guys today in period 1 we started writing our blog for Friday, we had to write about what we think music is, share a song you like to listen to our a genre, and 1 thing you learnt this week.
We started working on music on Monday starting this week. Here is what I've written for it and I hope you enjoy it.
What I think music is, is just different types of melodies, harmonies, beats, and sometimes someone's voice mixed together to make a sound that sounds enjoyable to listen to. One of my favourite genres that I like to listen to is Rap and Hip Hop, I find them nice to listen to. My favourite song has to be Them Changes by Thundercat, it's my favourite song because it makes me feel really nice and calm. 1 thing I learnt this week is different things about beats and rhythm, I also learnt what a semi breve is. Also, what is your favourite song?

Jet boats
Hi, guys today in Te Ao Whanui we did some research on what inventions our reading group was named after. The reading group I'm in is the Jet Boats, which means we had to do some research about them.
There were a few questions we had to search up for the inventions like
Who invented it, When was it made, What's the purpose, how has it changed the world, and why did the inventor want to make it. After we did that we had to do a paragraph about it. Here is my paragraph and I hope you all enjoy it.
Jet boats were created by someone named Sir William (Bill) Hamilton, he made this during the early 1950s. Hamilton wanted to make the Jet Boats because he wanted a boat that could navigate the shallow fast-flowing rivers where he lived. There are a few purposes for the jet boat, mostly riding the waves, also it was found that the water jet is better than propellers. Jet boats have changed the world mostly because tourism has gone up in countries that have Jet Boats.
Hamilton's full name is Sir William (Bill) Hamilton
To do the ton means to reach 100 mph
Some things that Hamilton invented were the Jetboat, waterwheel, and he started tinkering with a car.
Revolutionize means, is to change something radically or fundamentally.
I think that the Jetboat was a successful invention because people still use it.
Jetboats are used around the world as a tourism attraction.
Hamilton thought that an ancient Greek named Archimedes made the jetboat

Inventions
Hi guys today in Te Ao Whanui we did some tasks, the task that I'm blogging about was being in a group and then listing down the 10 inventions From most important to least important.
Now we have to blog about which one we thought was the most important because maybe your group outvoted you.
What I thought was the most important was the Bessemer Furnace which is used to mass-produce steel. I think that this is the most important because people wouldn't be able to make things without steel, so it would make sense if the Bessemer Furnace was first. You wouldn't be able to make a lot of buildings because most buildings have steel in them. like the roofs or pillars that hold up the buildings. Some vehicles like Cars, Trucks, and bikes wouldn't be able to be made because some parts are made out of steel, as well as Steel safety barriers for roads, railways, and railing ETC. That is why I think that the Furnace Steel was made the most.
Maths - Tia and Tom
Hi guys today in Maths we were doing a small question on money, The question was "Tia and Tom are twins. Tia saves and Tom spends. Tom finds a $20 note on Sunday evening and spends $2 a day starting on Monday. Coincidentally Tia starts work on Monday and gets paid $2.50 a day. How long will it take for Tia to get more money than Tom"
You had to work in a group for this question either in a pair or in a 3, I decided to work with Carla on this because I always work with Carla. We thought that it would be easier for one of us to do Tia and one of us to do Tom. We started going all the way until we stopped and found out that we had nearly the same amount. We stopped on Friday where Tia had $12.50 and Tom had $10.
How we worked this out was just Carla took away 2 for each day
And I had to add $2.50 a day because she makes that for each day. And that's how we each worked out the answer, on Friday she would make more money than Tom.
I am Malala - Prologue + Chapter 1
Hi, guys today in Wananga we are doing the novel study again, We once again have more questions to answer, here is my work and I hope you enjoy it.
Not a lot of people in Pakistan celebrate a birth of a girl this is because a girl's role over in Pakistan is to prepare food as well as having children. Malala's father didn't care that she was a girl he liked her from the start.
Malala was named after Malalali who was a famous Pashtun poet.
Society's image of woman is that they cook food and then grow up to raise kids, Malala and her father think different, Malala thought it was unfair that girls had to hide themselves as well as no being able to have an education, her father thinks it's pretty unfair as well.
Before Malala was shot I don't think she feared for her life, she was pretty calm about it instead she wanted to know how it felt to die and if she almost died she wanted to tell people about it.
KPK was part of the British colony but sooner the British colony gave the KPK their independence, but for the meaning of Malala's story they probably once listen to her because of many different reasons main ones being that she is, in fact, a woman.
When Alexzander the Great reached Swat Valley he conquered the swat
the various religions that conquered the Swat were Buddist, Hindu, Islam, and Muslim.

Novel Study - I Am Malala
Hi, guys today in Wananga we have started a novel study, I'm reading a book called I Am Malala, before we actually read the book there are some questions that we have to do, here is what I did
Based on the cover I think this book is about the girl that is on the cover of the book and I'm guessing it's a story about her life and her journey.
I haven't heard of Malala Yousfzai before so I don't know things about her.
Reading the description on the back of the book I'm pretty sure it might be about her story and how she survived getting shot which was when taliban took over her country.
