Hi guys today in reading we started to pick which book that we wanted to read. I asked Mrs. Birtch to help me choose a book, the book she choose for me was "Playing To Win".
The first impression I got form the book was from the cover, from the cover I can see that it something to do with rugby, mainly because there is two boys on the front and a rugby ball, the book doesn't seem that too interesting from the cover. On the back of the book there is a description on what the book is about I found it interesting when it said "Todd came at me again. I ducked but this time he fell on me, clawing my face with his nails." that part made me confused on what was going on but it also made me want to know what was going to happen, the back confirms that it is about rugby and there is also some drama within the book. One of the activities is where you open to a random page in the book and read it, I opened up to page 60, I found the page very confusing but also surprised, I found out from reading one line of the book is that someones brother is dead. The author of the book is a lady named Fleur Beale, she is a New Zealand teenage fiction author, it says that she is mostly known for one of her books that she wrote which is named "I am not Esther", Fleur Beale won the 2012 Storylines Margaret Mahy Medal, she also won an award for her story Fierce September in the section of young adult fiction. She is also from Inglewood which is a town in the north islands, she is also 75 years old. I think that the book is a fiction book because it isn't based on a true story, if it was it would've said so on the back somewhere. I predict that the book will be about two boys fighting over a the girl who's name was Alice and that Denny will make it into teh First Fifteen.
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 7 and in 2021 I will be a year 8. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Reading - Novel
B+E
Hi guys today we are writing a recount on what we did yesterday at the market day. Here is my recount, hope you all enjoy.
During the first few minutes of school we went and found our table, our table was pretty small so Shanaya and I were about giggly because we had a huge poster. Shanaya and I told Saia to go and take the table outside to the lane-ways outside of the tech rooms, we didn't exactly know where so Shanaya and I walked over to go and find the group who was doing the balloon pop, we found them on the way while walking to go and find them. We looked to go and see where they set up, once we saw where they set up we told Saia to set up next to them. After a few minutes the market day started. Saia stayed at our bay for most of the time. Me and Shanaya went outside to go and find something to do, we walked around and we bought something to drink from our friend Taylor, she was selling rocks and soda cans, the soda cans ran out so fast that she couldn't keep up with all the tokens that she had to put a line through. After walking around we went to our bay, there was a few people there buying lolly bags. After the first person who came to our bay and bought a lolly bag a group of people came over to our bay because our first person said that she told some other people from her school to come to our bay to buy some lolly bags. After the people who came our bay died down a little bit. Mikayla came and had a spin and won our top prize, which was a kit kat chocolate block. After about what felt like ages we ran out of our lollies that we had, Saia then took our money to the bank to confirm that we had sold out of everything that we had. Shanaya and I got bored waiting around so we went out and spent the tokens that we had we bought matching earrings from someone I cant really remember who we got them from but they are really good quality. The money we made from our stuff was $60.50, we had to take away $16.90 which means we made a profit of $43.40, our group made more money than I thought we would. Something I would do next time is probably stay at the stall more.

The Gingerbread Man - Characterization
Hi guys today in reading we watched a video on the tale "The Gingerbread Man", we now have some questions and stuff to do, here are my answer to what we had to do, hope you all enjoy.
The protagonist in the story would be the Gingerbread Man because the story is about him, and the antagonist would be the grandma that baked him because she was the first to run after him and try and eat him. The type of character that I think the Gingerbread Man is a static character because he basically stayed the same throughout the story.
A Direct characterization is when the person tells you something about the character for an example i'm going to use one off the video and its about the old lady and the old man.
In the video he narrator says something along the lines of "They were very lonely because they never had children" You could tell that they were lonely because the narrator said so.
Indirect characterization is when the person doesn't tell you what the person is feeling but you can tell by the actions or by something the person says. Here is an example of an indirect characterization about the Gingerbread Man.
Instead of the narrator saying that he was really energetic, he just jumped out of the oven fast.

War Letter To Family + Questions
Questions
The soldiers fought in Gallipoli for eight months and the soldiers fought in Passchendaele for two weeks. The amount of soldiers that were wounded was 41 thousand and 18 thousand New Zealanders died. The outcome of the war was that the two countries that were participated in the war were that they singed a peace treaty.
Dear, Family
I'm sorry that I have not responded or wrote a letter to you in a while. I have been busy training. In the bunker i'm in the walls around me are a rusted colour of brown, the floor is kind of muddy, its also cold, it also has a strong stench of blood, even though i'm in the bunker we had to drag and carry the injured people here so the nurses could heal us. In Gallipoli we landed in the wrong spot, they were above us on the cliffs. It was really bad but my friends and I are still alive the thing is that my friends and I are injured. Right now i'm sitting in bed writing this to you. I hope you are all well and also how are things going back there?. Anyways, I'll write a letter to you soon. Goodbye
Sincerely
