Hi, guys today in Nga Tangata we looked at the climate change protest that had started in New Zealand. After we looked at some things to do with the climate change protest we looked at an article and a youtube video of Jacinda Ardern speaking on climate change. After you had watched the video and read the article you had two activities to do. The activities were that you had to write a timeline on what happened when the protest first started and till the end. After you did that you would go on to the vocabulary task that was given, or you could do that vocab first. I did my timeline on paper. Here is my vocab and I hope you enjoy it.
Climate Change - Climate change is a rise in global temperatures.
Campaign - Something organized to achieve a goal.
Demonstration - Demonstration is when you show how to do something or giving proof of something
Zero Carbon - Zero carbon means that there is no carbons are being produced by a product or a service.
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 7 and in 2021 I will be a year 8. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Springbok Tour - Mirror image
Hi, guys today in Nga Tangata we did some reading. My group read about the Springbok tour. We looked at 3 different stories. The story that is the main focus is called Mirror Image, Mirror image is a story on the Springbok Tour and showing two different points of view of two different girls around the same age. After reading the story we had to write a paragraph on the similarities in the point of view and the differences between the two. Also a small thing of why you think that the title is suitable for the story. Here is what I wrote and I hope you enjoy it.
Some similarities between the point of view are that they both think that it is fair that people of different races are allowed to play. When
Meggie was walking to the stadium she wasn’t there to watch the game
but she was there to protest. Some differences between their point of view are that Meggie was protesting for other people, while Zodaw was at home watching the game with her father and her neighbour, even though she wasn’t that interested in rugby at all. Zodaw did see Meggie smile at the camera while she was walking away from the policemen.
Zodwa saw this and thought things were going to change for good.
Zodaw also lives in a different country than Meggie. I think that Mirror
Image is a suitable title for this book because it showed two different points of view that help see both sides, which kind of relates to the title.
Touchpad Slides
Hi guys today in Tuhura we're working on cyber smart. For this period we looked at using or touchpads correctly and how to use them. We worked on a slide that gave us some activities to do which helped us using a touchpad. Here is the slide that I did and I hope you enjoy it.

Why you should listen to music - persuasive writing
Hi, guys today in Te Ao Whanui we started writing on a new topic. We were told that you can write something that you are passionate about and persuade whoever is reading it we have to persuade them here is what wrote and I hope you enjoy
Heaps of people listen to any type of music every day. You also hear music everywhere, on the radio, at school, inside your home, in all types of ads, youtube videos, in movies, and more. Imagine having no music it would feel like certain things are out of place since music is basically everywhere we go. It would also feel like life would be kind of boring since it’s good to listen to music every now and then. I have some reasons why you should listen to music. Here they are
My reasoning for why you should listen to music is that it helps you calm down and be focused. When doing your work or making something listening to music can really help you keep focused or even be relaxed. I feel like when I’m writing something I find writing more enjoyable while listening to music because sometimes I get ideas from the certain type of music I’m listening to as well as I’m way more focused and it’s more enjoyable. It was also scientifically proven that music is a brain workout, it can reduce anxiety, blood pressure, pain, and it also can improve sleep quality. Another thing it can do is improve your mood. Music also has a role in movies, it can set an atmosphere for what is going on and also maybe tell people what is going on through music. For another example when walking on your own you can wear some headphones or not and just play some music and be calmer.
Some examples of this are while listening to music while working out can help you do it more efficiently as well as more enjoyable. Maybe when you are sad or angry you could listen to music to calm you down or improve your mood. Also depending on the type of music, you listen to it can help you with different types of emotions. When listening to music you can sometimes get some ideas for writing something, drawing or painting, or be inspired to make anything from listening to music. Music can also quiet down people if they are talking too much o being too loud, listening to something may reduce their voice or they may not speak while listening.
Those were my reasonings and examples on why you should listen to music, it calms you down, improves your mood, and helps you keep focused on whatever you are doing at the time. That is why you should listen to music.
Want-s week 9 writing
Hi, guys last Friday I finished my wants writing here it is hope you enjoy it.
There is more than one person who created the phone. Their names are Martin cooper, W. Rae
Young, Eric Tigerstedt, and Donald Cox. The phones were created in
1973, that’s how long they have been on the earth. People use their
phones every day, imagine how it would be like not having your
phone to help you with simple tasks. It would feel pretty weird since
you have gotten used to using your phone every day. Here is why I think that you should have a phone.
Phones help you a lot, they are used for simple communication,
you can call people, or text them if you prefer. They are also used for
different things as well. Taking photos without using just a big camera, you
can watch TV shows or movies on it, looking up stuff if you don’t know what
something means, and more. Phones are also simple to use for all different types of things if you
want to buy something from the shops but don’t have the energy to get out of bed or go out of your house you could just order it online.
Phones can be used as a source of entertainment which can be used offline
or online. For offline use, you are limited to things you can use and what you
can’t use but it is still pretty helpful. For example, you can be driving somewhere
and not know where you are going you could just pull up google maps which you
can use offline if you put on a function before you can use it. And then just search
up the place you want to go and where you are it gives you a fast and simple way to
get to where you want. Another example is that you can be walking around with a friend
but they go a different way and then you lose them. You could just send them a text or call them and ask where they are and they just tell you where they are.
Think about what would happen if you didn’t have phones.
You would probably not be able to do simple things in simple and fast ways.
Though you can be able to do different things without using your phone
though it could be a slowed process doing it instead of just doing probably
in a few small and simple steps using your phone. Though cellphones came from other phones which were made way before them. The first phone was created all the way back in 1876, which is around 140 years ago or more,
which is a long time ago, none of us would be alive during that time. A few people created the
first telephone whose names are Alexzander Graham Bell, Antonio Meucci, Amos Dollar, Charles A. Cheevers, and John Pierce. They should be thanked for the cell phones we have today.
That is why I think you should have phones, from all the examples and reasons I have given in my other paragraphs you can tell that you should have phones because it is easier.
Do now - Writing
Hi, guys today in Te Au Whhanui we are starting off with a do now activity, the statement for today is CARR stamps encourage students to make positive choices. Here is what I wrote and I hope you enjoy it.
I don't agree with the statement that CARR stamps encourage students to make positive choices. Even if students do get CARR stamps for doing work and stuff, I don't think they would care. Here is why I disagree.
Most student's I've meant don't really care about CARR stamps. CARR stamps also don't really do a lot. The CARR stamps usually are just there to say you do your work or have a positive attitude in class. Most teachers don't even use the CARR stampers to stamp your cards in the first place. Most of the time I get CARR stamps I just either leave them in my pocket or they are just at my house on my desk. I don't care for CARR stamps because they really do nothing, as well as it's kind of just a waste of paper and ink. There are a few things CARR cards do, if you get 5 full CARR cards you get a post card to home, 10 full CARR cards a 5 dollar voucher to the cafe, and 20 full CARR cards just give you 10 dollars to the hub or to the cafe, which I feel like isn't really that much. When I get CARR cards I don't care I just usually shove them in my pocket and forget about them until I check. I don't enjoy working up to the gifts you get because it isn't much and you could probably just get way more for just asking your parents for some money.

Persuasive Writing - Should 7-8 have phones at school?
Hi, guys today in Te Ao Whanui we are starting a Do Now Activity the statement that was put is "Should year 7-8s have phones at school" Here is what I did for the writing and I hope you enjoy it.
Some people are allowed phones at school but it's only year 10's and up. But I think that year 7-8s should be allowed their phones at school. Here is why I think that years 7-8 should be allowed to use their phones at school.
I think that it's reasonable that year 7-8's should have their phones at school because some people might actually need them. They may need them because they need to take the bus and if they miss the bus they can call their parents and tell them that they will be late or ask for them to be picked up.
Also if some students walk home and it starts raining suddenly, they could just get their phones out and call or text their parents and ask if they can get picked up because it is raining. There could also be a meeting for a club they have after school and they just find out but their parents don't know, they could just text their parents and tell them.
Year 7-8's have their phones at school could also have them having more power on their Chromebooks. This is because some people go on their Chromebooks during intervals and lunch which results in having less power on their Chromebook for work time, if they had phones they could be able to go on their phones and play games or just look at things on their phone so that they have more power on the Chromebooks for school work.
That is why I think that year 7-8's are allowed their phones at school.
